Our
rapid turnaround assures your meeting upcoming deadlines or your production
can proceed uninterrupted. Our Reverse Engineering function can accurately
measure tooling or parts without prints and assure they can be re-manufactured
to original specs.

Dimensional
Inspection
- Customer supplies
parts, prints, or CAD model for dimensional verification.
- Complete (full)
dimensional layout option.
- Selected (critical)
dimensional layout option.
- Alaark programs
and measures part using CMM equipped with SP600 touch trigger & continuous
contact scanning probe.
- Standard computerized
report: Points, lines, and circles are graphically generated on screen
when feature is measured. Graphics are printed to assist in interpreting
the text inspection report.
- Formal inspection
report if required- numbered print and spreadsheet inspection report.
- Graphical analysis
showing out of spec. conditions. This is helpful when a hole position
or a surface profile is out of spec. Graphical arrows show deviation
vectors and are color coded for over, under, and % of tolerance being
used.
- Design and build
holding fixtures for multiple parts for future runs-if required.
First
Article Inspection / ISIR's
- Dimensional inspection
that usually involves a complete 100% layout of a sample produced from
a new tool or design change.
- Formal inspection
report- numbered print and spreadsheet inspection report.
- Graphical analysis
showing deviation vectors of out of spec conditions.
- Control plans
if required.
Overload
Inspection
- When your own
CMM or inspectors cannot keep up with inspection demands.
- When your CMM
is tied up checking production but you need to do an ISIR, or vice versa.
- When you're short
of personnel out on leave.
- Cost savings
when you cannot justify hiring a new employee or purchase a CMM.
- Short term projects.
Reverse
Engineering
Re-manufacture parts
or tools without prints typically using the following process:
- Measure part
or tool on CMM.
- Create an IGES
file for CAD design and manufacture of part.
- Automatically
create a part program for future use.
- Inspect the new
part.
Reverse engineering
features:
- Scanning and
digitizing surfaces creating thousands of points to define complex shapes
to generate computer models.
- Digitized information
posted as IGES for CAD translation.
- DMIS translation
system is fully compatible with major protocols for transferring data
between CAD systems and CMM (see Brown & Sharpe machine specification
page for file formats).
Gage
Calibration
- Alaark designed,
manufactured, and validated inspection fixtures.
- Customer gage
and fixture validation.
- Calibration recall
notices.
- Before and after
readings.
- Controlled environment.
- NIST Traceability.
- Calibration performed
per ISO10012-1.
Statistical
Analysis
- Process capability
reports
- X bar & R charts
- CP & CPK charts
- Histogram analysis
- Complete surface
analysis capability
- Gage R & R
- Customized graphic
reports
Metrology
Outsourcing Advantages
Why outsource for
metrology services?
Cost Savings
- Temporary inspection
overload- companies opt to outsource when there is a lack of resources
due to leave or vacation. When work backs up it's beneficial to outsource
rather than implementing mandatory overtime or creating a late delivery
situation.
- Economic slowdown
or seasonal work- lower employee costs, temporary solution rather than
hiring full time employees.
- Short term projects-
when a project exceeds internal equipment capability, companies can
outsource inspection rather than buying an expensive CMM. To justify
the purchase of a CMM many issues must be considered. Costs to consider
are the initial cost of a CMM which can run hundreds of thousands of
dollars, design and fixturing costs, environmentally controlled room,
hiring a dedicated programmer, training, software contracts, annual
calibration costs.
- Long term projects-
companies can evaluate the need for their own CMM based on the above
costs and decide if outsourcing is beneficial.
Value Added advantages
- Lack of resources-
Some CMM's do not have the bi-directional link with CAD or scanning
probe for reverse engineering.
- Lack of expertise-
some companies do not have an experienced CMM programmer with a strong
metrology background.
- Neutral evaluation-
Unbiased third party intermediary between a manufacturer and their supplier
if there is a disagreement relating to the measurement of a part.
